Long Hairstyles

Long Curly Hairstyle

People with curly hair live on altogether another planet. Curly hairstyles are completely different from straight ones. They require a different level of care and they project a different kind of mood. People with curly hairstyles have to adopt greater precaution (although this does not really mean more work) than people with straight hair. Some problems with curly hair include: frizzy hairs, split ends, stressed hair and other types of damages. Most of these problems arise because of inadequate care or improper hairstyle for curly heads.

Taking care of curly hair

Here are some dos and don’ts for people with curly hair:

  • Do not pick through your hair with your fingers; this turns the wonderful curls into ugly strings.
  • Avoid brushing unnecessarily, especially when the hair is dry. This will make the hair frizzy. Brush when the hair is wet or just towel dried.
  • Dry your hair by flipping the head over on one side. This will prevent the hair at the crown from flattening out, leading to distasteful flat-on-top-curly-at-ends look.
  • One limit of curly hair is that there is very little scope of hairstyling at home. Look for a hairstylist who can look after curly hairs (for they are a rare breed!).
  • Use leave-in conditioners (spray types as the creamy ones will make your hair weigh a ton). This will reduce hair damage during the day. Curly hairs dry up easily (creating the frizzy hair look) so you need to moisturize it often. Conditioners do this. Brush in the conditioner when the hair is still damp.
  • Try not use shampoos every day, only rinse and condition. This helps the hair to retain moisture. Twice a week is a good rule of thumb, unless you have an oily scalp.
  • Since you will be using more styling products and hair care products, residues will inevitably accumulate in the hair. You will notice this if your hair is flatter than usual or seems dirty even after washing. Use a residue removing shampoo to address this issue.

Some Nice Long Curly Hairstyles

Casual—combines softness with a natural look that bounces and settles down on its own. It is great for outdoors (e.g. outings, picnics) as it flows naturally with the body’s movements. A casual look can be long below the shoulders with graduated layers or have one length. Generally requires a lot of liquid gel and mousses to create so as to keep the hair settled and not become frizzed.

Spiral Cascading curls—looks very good on blondes. Kinky and exciting, this style has deep spirals descending below the shoulders and curls circling the head. It can only be done by a hairstylist but with spiral iron and curl activators it is possible to maintain the hairstyle for a long time.

Wavy—this is just a curly hairstyle in disguise! Wavy hairstyles frame the face extraordinarily well. It is free-flowing, full and gives off a mood of being easy-going. It is mostly for casual occasions
